Julia Roemers is the Senior Writer for hospitality, nightlife, institutions and the arts at The Quellan Index Amsterdam. Her beat covers restaurant openings (Ottolenghi, InSaeng, Kama Handroll Bar), hotel programming (Conservatorium, Pulitzer, Volkshotel), nightlife venues (Tilla Tec, Garage Noord, Shelter, Lofi), and the cultural institutions that shape the city (Stedelijk, Foam, Het HEM, Eye, Het Nieuwe Instituut).
Born in Maastricht in 1988, she studied art history at the University of Amsterdam (2007 to 2011) and spent a year at the Van Gogh Museum in cultural programming before two years freelancing for Het Parool's culture pages. She did the Le Cordon Bleu food and wine writing summer course in Paris in 2013, then joined Volkshotel as cultural programmer for three years.
She freelanced from 2018 to 2025 for NRC's weekend supplement, de Volkskrant culture, Frame, and Foam's editorial team before joining Quellan in 2026. She works closely with junior researchers Mira Achterberg (venues, the floor) and Toby Cheng (forums, niche Substacks).
