Niek van Brandt is the Senior Writer for fashion, retail, streetwear, and brand culture at The Quellan Index Amsterdam. He covers Amsterdam-rooted brands (Patta, Daily Paper, FLÂNEUR, Filling Pieces, BYBORRE, Bram's Fruit, The New Originals) and the wider Dutch contemporary fashion scene with a structural lens, naming category drift, lag, and compression where the press cycle has not.
Born in Den Bosch in 1989, he moved to Amsterdam at 23 for a job in retail and never left. He graduated from AMFI fashion communications in 2014 and spent the following five years on the Patta wholesale floor — when the brand had two stores and a wholesale list of 40 accounts. By the time he left, the wholesale list was 400. Those five years are the reason he can read brand-culture moves: he watched a brand cross from streetwear into cultural institution from inside the building.
He started writing in 2020 for a now-defunct Dutch fashion newsletter, then freelanced for Highsnobiety and Hunger Magazine's Amsterdam coverage before joining Quellan in 2026. He works closely with junior researcher Roos de Wit, the desk's TikTok and Instagram scout.
