PARCO's Fall/Winter 2026 advertising campaign, titled "Nostalgic Future," names LE COEUR JAPONAIS as its conceptual anchor. The 1927 French publication examined Japanese aesthetic philosophy for a European readership. Christophe Brunnquell, who spent 15 years as Purple magazine's founding art director, serves as creative director for the campaign.
The reference predates PARCO's own founding by 42 years. The company opened its first Ikebukuro location in 1969. Citing pre-war French commentary on Japanese identity inverts the expected reference chain, pulling European interpretation of Japanese culture back into a Japanese retail context.
Brunnquell's Purple tenure established a visual language that traded on archive citation and obscure textual reference. The PARCO campaign extends that methodology to department store advertising, a category that typically operates on seasonal product imagery rather than historical bibliography.
Campaign materials begin appearing in PARCO locations August 2026. The 99-year gap between source text and retail application becomes visible on the salesfloor by month's end.
