Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25, 2026, that Ryan Gosling will play Ghost Rider in a new standalone film. Shawn Levy is attached to direct. The film targets a 2028 theatrical release.
Levy directed Gosling in Star Wars: Starfighter, currently in post-production. He also directed Deadpool & Wolverine for Marvel in 2024. Ghost Rider marks his second Marvel project and his second consecutive collaboration with Gosling.
The character last appeared in theatrical releases in 2007 and 2012, both starring Nicolas Cage. Gabriel Luna played a different version of the character in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from 2016 to 2017. This is the first Ghost Rider project confirmed for the MCU theatrical slate.
Earliest observable marker: Marvel's D23 presentation in August 2026, where additional casting or production details may be disclosed.
