How We Read It

Nike owns two slots in the recommendation layer. Racing, where the Vaporfly 4 and Alphafly 3 carry weight across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity. Basketball, where Gemini names Nike as "the standard." Outside those two, the recommendation set is a specialist set. Each of those brands has a named product the five systems return in consensus. Nike has two, both category specialists, neither the brand's everyday-runner line.

System by System

The gap is not uniform. Each of the five systems returns Nike a little differently. The Preference Gap averages across them, but the shape of the gap tells the operational story.

ChatGPT. Nike Pegasus 41 is the default "one-shoe-for-everything" trainer at category boundary. The most Nike-favourable system in the set, and even here Nike does not sweep the recommendation slots.

Gemini. Alphafly 3 and Vaporfly 4 carry the racing slot. Vomero 18 is "reliable classic" for daily runs, second to the ASICS Novablast 5. For basketball, Gemini names Nike first.

Perplexity. The hardest system on the brand. Nike appears only in racing (Vaporfly 4) and long runs (Vomero Plus). Everyday training goes to the ASICS Megablast and Adidas Adizero Evo SL. Beginners go to the Brooks Ghost 17.

Copilot. Nike appears once, in trail running, with the Ultrafly as second option behind Salomon. The daily-trainer slot goes elsewhere. The sparsest Nike presence in the set.

Claude. Sits between Gemini and Perplexity, pulling Nike for specialist uses and specialist brands for everyday mileage.

Nike holds where the racing layer is dense. Nike thins where the everyday-runner layer is owned by specialists.
